closed eyes

the eyes of the figure are often closed.

the figure turns inward. quieter, less available. sometimes that is right. there is stillness there i trust.

but sometimes the open eyes make the work look back, and i am not ready to stay with that.

where the surface may need to stay raw, i smooth it instead.

the figure can still be honest in its own way. but it is not always the work i first reached for.

there are more cracks.
